The story begins in 1989, two years after Gorbachev was overthrown by hardline communists. Now, in a tense and divided Germany, NATO and Warsaw Pact armies are ready for conflict. The only thing left is the “Warning Order” to start the war.
In **WARNO**, you command your customized battlegroup and lead hundreds of Cold War-era units to victory on dynamic battlefields. You can choose between NATO or Warsaw Pact forces and fight in solo or online modes against AI or human opponents in huge 10v10 battles. Show your skills as a commander in the turn-based Army General campaigns that depict World War III in Western Europe.
Six nations, including the U.S., West Germany, United Kingdom, France, Soviet Union, and East Germany, each have their unique military units like tanks, helicopters, and planes. There are over 1000 different units, like the M1A1 Abrams tank and Mil Mi-24 Hind helicopter. In the Armory, you can inspect and compare each unit in detail.
**WARNO** also features famous military formations and brigades, each with a unique identity. You can build and customize your battlegroup with these units. The game includes five massive turn-based Army General campaigns focused on NATO and Warsaw Pact forces in 1989, especially near the Fulda Gap.
You can command hundreds of units down to the platoon level, including famous divisions like the U.S. 3rd Armored Division and Soviet 79th Guards Tank Division. There are also eight planned operations with tactical combat missions that tell exciting stories of the conflict.
**WARNO**’s battlefield is detailed and beautiful, with rich tactical options like hills, villages, forests, rivers, and bridges. Be careful of ambushes and flanking moves as you push forward the dynamic frontline.
